Very close with DeRozan https://t.co/tjsgjSZjYw

On Thursday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Toronto Raptors assistant Rex Kalamian has agreed to join the coaching staff of the Los Angeles Clippers. It is widely known around the NBA that Kalamian and DeRozan are close, therefore, rumors have been circulating that the Raptors star may be on his way to LA as well.
The Raptors are caught in a similar position of the Pacers a year ago. They can keep the team they have now and continue make the playoffs, but fail to be a championship contender. Or they can decide to rebuild.
The firing of Dwane Casey heavily suggests that they are leaning towards the latter option.
DeMar Derozan is the most intriguing trade chip the Raptors possess and the Clippers are looking for some star power to help them keep up in the Western Conference. The Clippers can offer the Raptors a package that includes Danilo Gallinari (or any player other than Lou Williams and Austin Rivers) and two lottery picks (12 and 13), but is that enough to land the LA-native?
If the Raptors decide to trade DeRozan there are not many offers that can top this one. Getting Kawhi Leonard is a pipe dream. The Suns are not going to part ways with the first overall pick. The only realistic trade option that I believe is better for the Raptors would be sending DeRozan to Minnesota for Andrew Wiggins, Oklahoma City’s 2018 first round pick, and Minnesota’s 2019 first round pick.
Personally, I am still on the fence about whether or not Toronto is ready to trade DeRozan, but if they do, the Clippers and Timberwolves appear to be the frontrunners to land the four-time All-Star.
