Lance Stephenson’s contract option reportedly declined by Pacers

The Indiana Pacers have reportedly declined the option on Lance Stephenson, per Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports. The guard would have made $4.36 million next season but will now enter free agency.

The 27-year-old averaged 9.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this season, both of which were his highest since his first stint with the team in 2013-14.

Stephenson has played for five organizations in three years before returning to the place that drafted him on a three-year deal. He averaged 22.6 minutes per game off the bench this season.

In his career, he has averaged 11.1 points per game in the postseason compared to just 8.8 points per game in the regular season. His playing style made him into a fan favorite, but Victor Oladipo and Bojan Bogdanovic make him an expendable asset.

Stephenson will look to find a new home but considering his struggles outside of Indiana, it will be difficult to assess the market for the guard’s services.
