The former All-NBA first teamer may opt into the final year of his contract with intentions of being traded somewhere. Marc Stein reported this earlier today:
One source described a Jordan-to-Dallas trade as a "long shot" … but the fact it's on the board is the strongest indication yet that the sides are willing to engage again after Jordan's about-face in 2015 free agency when he committed to the Mavs and then went back to the Clips https://t.co/RtYuckP40H

Remember, DJ was once this close to signing with the Mavericks during a past free agency period. He may see the writing on the wall in LA, as they gear up to clear cap space, gain assets, and hopefully bring in big name free agents over the next two summers. Plus, DJ is from Texas, so a return home could be just what he is looking for.
The Mavericks have some decent assets to trade, but are they enough? They just sent a future first to Atlanta. Time will tell. Regardless, if DJ opts into his contract this Friday, then we may have something exciting on our hands.
Where do you want DJ to go? @Mattesposito_
