Is Crawford a good fit in Philly? Yes and no.
Of course, Crawford can still play the role of a microwave scorer. There is a reason his handles will live on forever on YouTube, as J-Crossover uses them to get buckets. His career averages reflect this.
If Philly wants to manage the minutes of their talented, albeit often injured stars, they could benefit from giving Crawford the keys to their second unit offense. By doing this, Philly will not have to stagger the minutes of Embiid, Simmons and Fultz, meaning that trio of stars can maximize their court time together.
Defensively, Crawford struggles. Defense was one of the main reasons the Sixers finished 3rd in the East, as they touted the 4th best defensive rating in the Association. Are they willing to live with Crawford’s shot-jacking style and hope it nullifies his defensive woes?
At this point in free agency, there are not “perfect fits” still available who can make a meaningful difference. We know what Crawford brings to the table. For the right price, it could certainly be worth it.
