If you ask Kevin Love about LeBron joining the Lakers, the four time MVP knew exactly what he was doing.
“It feels like sometimes he’s playing chess and everyone else is playing checkers”, Love says in an interview with ESPN.
Love also adds that LeBron is always looking for a new challenge.
And signing with the Lakers is doing just that.
Remember, James could have signed with Rockets or 76ers, which would have pretty much been a guaranteed Finals appearance.
Outside of LeBron, the Lakers didn’t bring in another star. Yes, players like Rajon Rondo and Lance Stephenson will make an impact, but the roster didn’t drastically improve.
With teams like Golden State and Houston atop the Western Conference, it’s difficult to see the Lakers reaching the NBA Finals. Even as great as James is, asking him to lead a team full of young players, and a few veterans, against the Warriors, is no small task.
But, there’s also the part that goes beyond the game of basketball.
The market size in Cleveland is nowhere comparable to the Los Angeles market.
Instead of just living in the Los Angeles area during the off-season, James will be there full time. That means more access to bigger opportunities.
