As two of the most highly touted draft picks in recent years, Luka Doncic and DeAndre Ayton both have a very good chance to win Rookie of the Year in the 2018-19 season.

Though Ayton will likely play a major role with the Phoenix Suns as the big man they’ve coveted since their rebuild began, Luka Doncic will also serve as one of the key ballhandlers for a Mavericks team that is looking intriguing.

In a recent article by Chris Forsberg of ESPN, Doncic claims that Ayton has the best chance to win Rookie of the Year honors next season:

“I would say [Phoenix center Deandre] Ayton,” Doncic said. “He was the No. 1 pick. He’s tall, he’s strong, he can do so many things.

Certainly with a stunning physical profile and a prototypical big man’s game to boot, Ayton will have a great opportunity as a rim-running big man alongside Devin Booker and… a point guard to be determined later. Maybe Brandon Knight?

Either way, Doncic might be selling himself and other rookies short by choosing Ayton as Trae Young, Marvin Bagley, Wendell Carter Jr. and Kevin Knox will all have great opportunities on their respective teams to win the award. Only time will tell.
