With the addition of the Meme Team, the LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers are going to be one of the most entertaining teams in years.
One mercurial member of the group is Lance Stephenson, who has had his fair share of run-ins with opposing players, teammates and even LeBron James himself. Now that they’re both members of the Los Angeles Lakers, Stephenson told Dana Benbow of the Indianapolis Star that he plans to take some of his direction from the King himself:
“Yeah, he’s probably going to sic me on people. It’ll be fun. It will be a very interesting year, just playing with him and winning games with him.”
Stephenson has already detailed the reasons why he famously (or infamously, depending on your point of view) blew in LeBron James’s ear in the 2014 Eastern Conference Finals, so that mystery has been solved.
Now we know that Lance will be getting some of his motivation from LeBron James himself. Stephenson has always been a cagy defender, as well as a wily ballhandler who makes some difficult, highlight-reel passes (sometimes making them look more difficult than they really should be). With the King helping Lance channel some of that energy into a devoted defender on a likely Conference Finals contender, perhaps Lance can truly reach the pinnacle of the NBA world.
The Meme Team Lakers are already shaping up to be one of the most interesting and newsworthy since the Big 3 Heat or the current dynastic Warriors. If Lance Stephenson and LeBron James are working together to turn into an uber-exciting and entertaining duo on and off the court, NBA fans better sit up and take notice ASAP.
